In conclusion to the previous post I am posting the information from sjbparish.com’s poll in regards to whether or not a recycling program should be put in place. Here are the results from their website:
“LAPLACE – In an effort to test the desire of the people before forcing a new government program, the Hubbard administration and Parish Council decided to poll the residents of St. John to determine whether they wanted 1. Weekly Curbside Service at a cost of $2.50 per month, 2. Drop Off Locations Parish wide at no additional monthly cost to the resident, or 3. no recycling program at all. The poll, done online and via telephones to all residents of the parish, was conducted May 28, 29, 30 of last week. The results were as follows: 24% wanted the Curbside Weekly Pick up at their homes, 56.4% wanted free drop off locations parish wide, and 18.6% wanted no recycling program at all. “It is obvious that the people of St. John want the drop off locations and we are currently talking with the Council members to discuss possible locations,” Parish President Bill Hubbard said. The administration is bringing the issue before the Council at its next meeting on June 10, 2008 in LaPlace and will ask for authorization to begin negotiating drop off locations parish wide. Upon initial review, there will be 7 locations located throughout the parish spread out as follows: 2 on the Westbank, 1 in Garyville, 1 in Reserve, 2 additional locations in LaPlace (the parish currently operates a recycling drop off location behind the parish office building at 1801 West Airline Hwy). The bins for the drop off locations cost $125 to rent per month with a $400 roll off charge each time they need to be emptied. The initial program will be run up to 6 months so that the program can be monitored for success at each of the locations; at the end of the six months the program as a whole and each location will be reevaluated to determine if the program should be continued. The funds for the program will be taken from the Solid Waste and Beautification Budget.”
